Oak bark and leaves usually act as an astringent, anti-inflammatory, sedative or stypic remedy. The infusion is used when having stomach diseases, diarrhea, gastritis, colic, enteritis, colitis, ulcerative colitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver diseases. Warm infusion improves digestion.

Preparation mode: take 1 table spoon of the raw material and let it brew during 2 hours in a warm place, then strain it before using. Take half a glass three times a day before meals. It is not recommended to drink more than 2 glasses of infusion a day.

Contra indications: exclude ovedosage because of the tanning agents that might cause vomiting. Internal usage of infusions and broths is strongly contra-indicated for children. If you rinse your mouth with oak broth too frequently and for a long time, slackening of flair might be observed.

Buckthorn, bark
  • Buckthorn, bark

Application: one should not use freshly harvested or freshly dried bark or fruit for treatment as they might provoke nausea and sometimes vomiting. That is why the harvested raw material is kept to mature during a year. Buckthorn bark is usually used as a light purgative (the broth acts in 8-10 hours). The medicines of the plant reinforce intestinal peristalsis, but do not irritate its mucous tunic. The broth is often used when having chronic constipation and intestine atony. In folk medicine the broth is used for washing when having eczema and the fruit broth is used for treatment of different skin diseases as well as of furunculosis and carbunculosis. To avoid addiction to buckthorn medicines it is usually alternated with other diarrhetic medicines. Buckthorn is contained in different medicinal teas and repertories. It is necessary to watch over the dosage of the plant medicines as excessive dose provokes colicky pain in stomach.

Preparation mode: take 2 table spoons of the raw material for 200ml of boiled water. Warm it on the boiling water bath during 15min and let it brew during 1 hour. Then wring it out and make the broth volume the same as it was initially with the help of warm boiled water. Drink half a glass before going to bed.

Contra indications: it is necessary to keep to individual therapeutic doses for every patient. When overdosed, the medicine might provoke convulsions and dizziness. Also buckthorn usage is strongly prohibited for children under 15, for pregnant and nursing mothers.
